Thirsty Camaro: The muscle car will burn 20 liters of the best premium gasoline over 100 kilometers. It seems uncertain whether the German autobahns will also have the pleasure.

D.he era of muscle cars is far from over. And that’s a good thing, at least for asphalt cowboys with a fuel fleet card. For them there will soon be the new Camaro ZL1 with a 6.2-liter V8 that generates 550 hp. This makes the coupe, which will be launched in the USA next year, the fastest muscle car ever built by the brand.

The turbocharged small-block V8 develops a torque of 677 Newton meters, which makes the tires on the 20-inch wheels go up in smoke in no time. The gears are changed manually for rapid propulsion. The color scheme is classic: a matt black stripe is placed over the metallic paintwork. Spoilers on the front and rear are supposed to increase the downforce.

The Chevy developers have not yet given any precise information on top speed and acceleration. Insiders estimate the sprint to 100 km / h in around four seconds and the top speed over 280 km / h (like the Challenger SRT8). No information is given about consumption either – but nothing works below 20 liters.

Tight sports seats and a lot of leather are used in the interior. The cockpit is equipped with classic round instruments, four instruments in the center console provide important information about the condition of the machine.

The fast-reacting, magnetorheologically adjustable chassis, which has two driving modes Tour and Sport, is ultra-modern. There is also a snappy brake system from Brembo. Incidentally, the name ZL1 pays homage to an aluminum racing engine from the 1960s. Only 69 of them were built. It is doubtful whether the latest variant will come to Europe.
