Volvo calls for more eco flow of politics and energy industry-volvo

To fully exploit the potential of electric cars, Volvo demands more investment in green and clean energy. On the occasion of the UN Climate Conference “COP26” in Scottish Glasgow (31. October to 12. November 2021) Recognizes the Swedish car manufacturer in the heads of state and government as well as energy suppliers for better climate protection. The simultaneously published life cycle assessment of the new Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric shows how regenerative energy sources can reduce CO2 emissions over the entire vehicle life cycle.

In the context of the “COP26” species, heads of government and industrial representatives discuss new plans and other measures in the fight against climate change. A crucial role plays the continuous reduction in CO2 emissions. Volvo is consistently progressing in this area according to its own statement: the company pursues an ambitious electrification plan and wants to offer only electric cars from 2030. For this purpose, the Swedish premium car manufacturer in the coming years brings a whole family purely battery electrical models to market. On the way to the climate-neutral company up to 2040, Volvo also strives for the continuous reduction in CO2 emissions throughout the business operation.

“We can not create the transition to climate neutrality alone”

However, the company depends on the support of governments and energy sectors to exploit the full potential savings potential. As the VOLVO C40 Recharge Pure Electric published now shows, the availability of green, clean energy in production and charging of fully electric vehicles has a decisive contribution to the CO2 balance. For example, the Crossover model drawn in the coupe style is loaded with wind or other regenerative energy, the CO2 footprint of the vehicle is not even half as large as that of a Volvo XC40 with internal combustion engine. If the charging current comes from fossil fuels, the difference decreases clearly.

“We have deliberately made the strategic decision to become a fully electrical automobile manufacturer and industry leaders. We can not create the transition to climate neutrality alone, “says HÃ¥kan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars. “We need governments and energy companies that increase their investments in clean energies and the associated charging infrastructure so that fully electric vehicles can really redeem their promise of a cleaner mobility.”

The International Energy Agency (IEA) confirms the need for action in your current “World Energy Investment Report”. Although investments in clean energy sources have risen moderately, but they are still far below the value that would be necessary to avoid serious effects of climate change. Investments would therefore be more than doubled in the 2020s to limit the global temperature rise to under two degrees Celsius. For the desired 1.5 degree target, a tripling of the sum is required.

Volvo E cars with transparent Okobilanz

Since the introduction of the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, the first electric car of the brand, publishes the Swedish premium car manufacturer the life cycle assessment of each fully electric model. The transparent reports show how different scenarios affect the CO2 footprint of the vehicle, and provide customers with valuable information about the entire climate balance.

The new Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric has a CO2 footprint of around 27 tonnes over the entire lifecycle when the charging current comes exclusively from clean energy sources. On the other hand, the vehicle owner uses the average global energy mix in which electricity is generated to about 60 percent of fossil fuels, emissions increase up to 50 tonnes of CO2. This significantly reduces the distance to conventionally driven vehicles, the Volvo XC40 with internal combustion engine is 59 tonnes of CO2 over its entire lifecycle.

Green electricity for production

Also in vehicle production, green energy significantly influences the CO2 balance: The Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric has around 70 percent higher emissions in production than a Volvo XC40 with gasoline engine. For this purpose, the CO2-intensive production of battery and steel as well as the higher aluminum content are responsible.

In order to counteract, Volvo undertakes several steps: In cooperation with the Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB, the company researches, for example, the development of fossil-free steels. Together with Northvolt, batteries should also be produced by 100 percent of renewable energies.

About the complete life cycle, the company wants to lower the CO2 footprint of an average Volvo vehicle by 2025 by 40 percent compared to 2018. For this purpose, CO2 savings of 25 percent in the supply chain should also contribute.

Also until 2025 Volvo also strives for a climate-neutral production. Already now all European works with 100 percent clean electricity are operated, the Swedish production sites Torslanda and SkOvde are even completely climate-neutral. In China, the works Chengdu and Luqiao are also operated with climate-neutral electricity, the manufacturer in a recent communication.

  1. Everyone calls for,
This is the basic principle of today’s societies. Demand.
Nice, but if you do not have what is required? Not reasonably sufficient? There will be difficult. Actually, one would have to save the few for indispensable things and put priorities. This would probably mean that in the face of the ruling scarcity of green electricity that important things are first supplied with green stream. The steel cookers, needed, the transportation needed, … Who does not? > 90 percent of all goods on the globe keep the entire current global economy on the run. Most of the products come across lake with gigantic ships in any form, must be distributed with smaller ships or trucks. Do not you, so there are no cars with internal combustion engines, no e-motors, and no microchips ..
That just means there are no automobiles. No new cars. If you could not need hydrogen to save at least the electricity, the e-auot 23 h / day does not move because they are standing? My burners stand until Aich you need and the electricity power plants????
    What only a question ..
