The US logistics company Saia, one of the largest of the US in the area of general cargo logistics, has signed a letter of exchange for sale or leasing of 100 battery truck of type Nikola Tre with the Electric Truck Manufacturer Nikola. The cooperation should only start after successful completion of a demonstration program.
The demonstration program will include three E-trucks to be operated on several locations throughout the Saia network with a total of 180 locations across the USA. The launch of the pilot project is planned for the first half of 2022. Also in 2022 the first 25 vehicles should be delivered. The remaining E-trucks are to be folded by 2024 at Saia.
“We are excited that Saia has decided to work with us,” says Nikolas President for Energy and Commercial Pablo Koiner. “Saia is a leader in the freight and logistics industry and will be an important development partner for Nikola. This announcement is another milestone in our continuous progress in the delivery of emission-free vehicles, energy solutions and the sales and service network.”
As a leading transport provider, which has existed for almost 100 years, Saia is committed to reducing the operational impact on the environment through sustainable business practices, an optimization of vehicle fleet and corporate efficiency. Significant investments and process improvements are a main goal of Saia, says in a recent communication. The once flotted Nikola Tre can promote this commitment as they continuously improve CO2 emissions of the Saia fleet.
“We are pleased to work with Nikola to integrate battery electric trucks into our truck fleet,” says Saia President and CEO Fritz Wooden Gross. “We are determined to conduct our business responsibly and sustainably to reduce our impact on the environment and at the same time offer our customers an extraordinary service.”
