Should become the brand's bestseller: Tesla Model Y.
People want to drive SUVs and have a powerful drive, Tesla is certain.
That is why it is important to have a suitable offer, especially in the increasingly popular compact SUV class. With a purely electric drive, of course. After all, the Californian e-car pioneer sees itself as an accelerator for the change to sustainable mobility.
After the large Model S sedan, the large SUV Model X and the extremely successful mid-size sedan Model 3, which ranked fourth in the Swiss registration statistics in the first half of 2021, the next stage in the model range follows: The Model Y will be in the delivered to the first customers in the next few weeks.
The cockpit was taken from the Model3; the air conditioning also has a HEPA filter for clean air in the interior.
The compact SUV competes against competitors such as the BMW X3, the Audi Q5, but also electric cars such as the Mercedes EQC, the Skoda Enyaq or the Audi Q4 e-tron. At 4.75 meters long and 1.90 meters wide, the Model Y offers space for five or even seven people and up to 1900 liters of cargo space. There is also a storage compartment under the front hood. When you first try the seat, the crossover looks quite spacious – legroom in the back seat and headroom in particular are generous.
Good space in the back seat.
The battery in the underbody is also generous. 75 kWh storage capacity is sufficient for a range of 507 km in the “Long Range” version with all-wheel drive that will be available for the time being. On the go, the SUV charges at the Tesla Supercharger network or any other fast charging station with a CCS connection with up to 250 kW, which means that even long distances are no problem; here, too, the Model Y is in a league of its own; a VW ID.4 charges with a maximum of 125 kW. Tesla states the consumption as 16.9 kWh/100 km.
Despite the flat rear, the trunk holds up to 1900 liters; a version with seven seats will follow soon.
The “Long Range” variant that is now available and built in China accelerates to 100 km/h in five seconds and costs from 62,000 francs. A "Performance" model will follow in 2022. Here the manufacturer states a range of 480 kilometers and 3.7 seconds for the sprint to 100 km/h. The price: from 71,000 francs.
