Plug-in SUV with 750 HP: BMW introduces Concept XM

Under the motto “Power and Luxury beyond all conventions”, BMWS Performance division M has introduced its expressive new vehicle concept: the BMW Concept XM. “Power and luxury beyond all reason” will think of some when he stumbles through the performance data of the striking SUV: The newly developed M hybrid drive of the Concept XM combines a V8 engine with an E machine and generates a peak power of 550 kW / 750 hp and maximum torque of 1000 nm. After all, BMW indicates a purely range of electricity of up to 80 kilometers and thus ensures a small, green color spot. For further technical details or at the purchase price, BMW does not yet provide information.

The plug-in hybrid was presented as part of Art Basel Miami Beach 2021 and gives an outlook on the strongest ever built in series BMW M automobile. At the same time, the Concept XM illuminates exceptional aspects of the BMW brand “M”: the partial electrification ensure an outstanding driving experience between almost noiseless sliding and M typical high-performance properties. The Concept XM also shows the new front design for the future luxury class of BMW.

The production vehicle, the BMW XM, is to be produced from the end of 2022 in the BMW Group plant Spartanburg in the USA, the most important sales market for the new high-performance model,. Thus, BMW M GmbH brings to her 50th anniversary the first independent model since the legendary BMW M1 on the streets. The BMW XM will be available exclusively only as M and exclusively as plug-in hybrid.

With the Concept XM, BMW M GmbH wants to break independent paths in the luxury segment. The exterior focuses on a strong presence and an extroverted charisma. In the interior, a special form of the M-specific driver orientation in the cockpit with a completely newly designed rear is combined: The M Lounge should provide a “luxurious place of retreat” with its comfortable seats and the illuminated, sculptural designed roof sky, so BMW in a recent message.

For the first time, the Concept XM also presents the new, progressive front design for the BMW models of the luxury class, which should be seen in individual expression during the year 2022 with the BMW model offensive in the luxury segment. The novel distribution of the front lights in two separate modules ensure an expressive appearance. Striking shows the daytime running signature in the narrow, sharp-drawn upper luminaire module. The BMW kidney-oriented BMW kidney constructed between the headlights and horizontally, narrows to the outside and should underline the dynamic character of the front with almost octagonal contour. The black kidney elements are edged by a filigree kidney frame and seem almost free to float in a high-gloss black surface. Within the kidney, M typical double rods emphasize the width. A concise contour lighting stages the kidney. As a result, the striking unit from kidney and daytime running lights should be recognizable immediately in the dark.
