General Motors (GM), an American automobile manufacturer with brands such as Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac, is preparing to become America’s flagship when it comes to electromobility. It was recently announced that it would invest $7 billion in four plants at its Detroit, Michigan headquarters. In particular, battery cell and e-truck production capacities will be expanded. This should allow additional 4.000 jobs created and 1.000 can be obtained. The largest investment program in GM history is a ray of hope in the troubled heartland of the American auto industry.
Specifically, a new ultium battery cell movement in Lansing and the reconstruction of the production plant in Orion Township for the construction of the fully electric models Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are tackled. In addition to the ZERO plant, Orion Township will be the second GM plant to build the new all-electric pick-up models based on the Ultium platform. The production volume should be 600.000 trucks per year when both plants are in full operation. 4 billion US dollars will be invested in this, 2.350 new jobs created and 1.000 received. The first trucks are scheduled to roll out of the Orion plant in 2024. A further 510 million US dollars will be invested in the expansion of the two production plants in Lansing, where, among other things, the Chevrolet Traverse and the Buick Enclave will be assembled.
Thus, the “next important step has gone to build GM’s leadership in electromobility through investments in vertically integrated battery production and vehicle production,” explains Mary Barra, CEO of GM. This is made possible by the extremely positive customer feedback on the presentations of the upcoming E models, next to the Chevrolet Silverado, among other things, the fully electric GMC lobster, Cadillac Lyriq and Chevrolet Equinox. GM wants to become the broadest e-portfolio by 2025, 2030 should already have more than 50 percent of the built vehicles in North America have an electric drive. By 2025 you want to build over 1 million electric vehicles each year.

As before said;
Do not Talk – Just Walk!
The US President believes in you ! 🙂
and presidents always tell the truth 🙂
Time will tell 🙂 🙂 🙂
But only if Trump is not re-elected in 2024, otherwise you can probably forget about the energy transition and democracy in the USA. In this decade, much is at stake, worldwide, not just the climate.
The energy transition is not decided by technology, but by the politicians at the top in Europe, the USA and China who can promote or prevent it – as can democracy and human rights.
Wonderful, let’s talk about it when ‘should’, ‘will’, ‘take the next important steps’ and ‘tackle’ have become concrete results..
Others like Tesla, VW and Hyundai have presented and some just slept for a very long time. These include GM, Ford, Toyota and a few whose names we prefer not to mention.
The Ami OEMs are probably now buying from Google and are quickly locked into a vendor lock.
@Thorsten
Maybe just an old psycho trick:
Take a ‘failure’, tell him with as much “strong authority” as possible that he will master the task … et voila and –> it could work 😛
Addendum:
The climate between President Joe Biden and Tesla boss Elon Musk is bad, a “white old man” in the presidential seat in the USA and the new electric car light figure do not seem to go together.
Biden prefers to meet with GM and Ford, 2 of “The Big Three”, the electric car preventers of the 1990s.
He also seems to have forgotten the minorities in the USA, who contributed significantly to the increase in votes in Biden’s election victory – the “white old man” in the White House is apparently becoming forgetful – not a good sign for electromobility and the energy transition in the USA.
It’s a good thing that Tesla is building a plant in Germany, thereby increasing the pressure on German and European car manufacturers, otherwise the “white old men” in politics in Germany and Europe, together with the lobbyists of the old fossil energies and nuclear power, could destroy electric cars and so that the energy transition can slowly bob itself along again, so that it doesn’t hurt any of them.
Whether this – Biden meets GM and Ford, but not Tesla and disappointed minorities in the USA – can still prevent Trump’s re-election in 2024? A miracle would have to happen.
