Under the motto “The Future Is Here”, Lexus has released another teaser of the new RZ 450e, the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, a sporty, curved crossover for the middle class. Apart from the minimalist nose, the design is not a big surprise, the appearance is typical of the brand. The RZ 450e is based on the platform designed exclusively for electric drive, on which the first Stromer from the parent company Toyota will appear, the BZ4X, and the Subaru Solterra.

Since Toyota has already revealed some data of the BZ4X and the Solterra, it is roughly clear which performance package the premium offshoot from Lexus should come with. A battery with a good 71 kWh ensures a range of up to 450 kilometers in the two sister models. However, Lexus should not be satisfied with the maximum 160 kW drive power of the Toyota-Subaru duo (80 kW each per axle). And the significantly sportier design compared to the Toyota BZ4X and Subaru Solterra, for example due to the two spoiler knobs at the rear, indicates at least a small plus in power.

The “Direct” lettering on the tailgate of the RZ 450e indicates all-wheel drive. In terms of performance, the purely electric Lexus crossover, true to the brand nomenclature, should be based roughly on the hybrid mid-range SUV RX 450h, which puts 230 kW / 313 hp on the road. The E-TNGA platform from Toyota also has the right units ready for this performance class: a 150 kW electric motor for the front and an 80 kW machine for the rear.

Toyota BZ4X and Subaru Solterra will also be sold in Germany from 2022. It is not yet known when the Lexus RZ 450e will be available from dealers. It shouldn’t take too long, however.
