In this episode of the electric car news, Tim Neugebauer, Head of Marketing of the Formula Student team Ecurie Aix.net podcast exchanged ideas with me about Formula Student and gave a glimpse behind the scenes. More than 500 teams are active worldwide, with the RWTH Aachen team focusing on the competitions in Europe. In most cases, these are based on the rules of Formula Student Germany (FSG).
In short, the content of the competition is that a single-seater formula racing car is designed and manufactured in teamwork. The Formula Student teams have to prove themselves in various disciplines that focus on design and production as well as the economic aspects of automobile construction. The idea behind this is that the students set up a prototype in their own production company. As a result, “normal” team members are quickly put to work for 20 hours or more a week, alongside their studies, on and around the vehicle. Members with more responsibility, like Tim, come quickly to 40 hours. Also in addition to the bachelor’s or master’s degree.

For the students, however, it is not just work, but the opportunity to put their own theoretical knowledge into practice. To learn and get involved. You also learn to structure your everyday life. All things that are advantageous in later careers, as Tim explains in the current episode. In the race itself there are different classes (combustion engine, electric and autonomous) and disciplines. Ecurie Aix takes on all disciplines, but in the classes you are only fully electric or autonomous. Combustion engines have been left out since 2014; From 2022 there should be no more combustion engines in Formula Student.
In the disciplines, a distinction is made between static and dynamic disciplines. In “Autocross” you go on a dynamic handling course on which you have to complete the fastest lap, under “Endurance” the actual main race is counted. And apart from the route, financial and marketing concepts are considered among other things. All of these individual disciplines give points and lead to up to 1.000 points. In detail, this Tim knows how to tell course better. Therefore, it is now also directly in the current episode.
You are welcome to send me questions about e-mobility by mail, which deal with you in everyday life. The answer to it could also be of interest to other listeners of the podcast. As always, reviews, comments and co. Of course I am happy. So gladly, also for the topic suggestions already mentioned. And about a positive rating, at the podcast provider of your choice, I am of course very happy! thank you.
