The Mini Coupe suffered the same fate. The sporty version differed from the other mini models mainly in its roof, which the designers allegedly used von a baseball cap placed upside down for inspiration. The coupe was never a sales success and was therefore discontinued in 2015.

Also practical and unsuccessful was the Mazda5, which came on the market in 2010 and was slightly redesigned in 2013. The car with the sliding door offered space for up to seven people. Unfortunately, hardly anyone wanted to buy it anymore. That was the reason Mazda is separating from the family van.

Will there be a successor to the Land Rover Defender one day? Nobody really knows. At the end of 2015, the off-road vehicle, which has remained almost unchanged since 1948, will be over for the time beingt was built. It does not meet the EU requirements for pedestrian protection.

At the end of 2015, some cars will disappear from the German market without a successor. We won’t even notice it for most of them, but we will mourn one model very much.

NNew vehicle models are coming, others are saying goodbye to the German car market: This cycle exists every year, including 2015. Lancia said goodbye, albeit so quietly that hardly anyone should have noticed. If you even knew that the Italians were still represented here.

The beautiful and noble forms had been renounced for a long time, the recycling of American sheet metal bodies like Chrysler Voyager did not lead to a revival, instead to an accelerated swan song.

"We need the diesel"

VW boss Matthias Mueller calls for a complete clarification of the affair. He declares diesel engines to be the technology required to meet the CO2 targets.

It was only logical that in the end there was only the Ypsilon small car to buy. Either way, at the end of the year the Italians will end their involvement in Germany and limit themselves to their home market – but only with the Ypsilon.

Speaking of small cars: After Subaru stopped selling the Trezia last year, the sister model Toyota Verso-S also ended this year. Too expensive, formally unconvincing: there are clearly more stylish and cheaper small cars. Maybe at some point the word will get around to the Japanese managers and designers.

Even with Mini was cleaned up and sorted out. The new generation of the cult car, available since the end of 2014, has become larger and more spacious, but the range of models is shrinking. Coupe and roadster were dropped from the program. As a consolation for all fresh air fans: The convertible variant will not be discontinued, but will be reissued in 2016.

The end of the Honda Accord in Germany

Convertible enthusiasts have not been so lucky everywhere. This year, there were steel folding roof variants across all brands. Be it that the costs for these constructions were too high, or that the rear views simply looked too pudgy due to the space required for the complex technology.

In any case, the hype surrounding this type of convertible is long gone. And so VW discontinued the Eos and Renault discontinued the Megane Coupe-Cabrio. With the 308 CC, Peugeot took its last CC vehicle out of its range. However, only a few people should have noticed that Nissan’s luxury subsidiary Infiniti has not only discontinued the Q60 Coupe, but also the convertible.

A lack of customer interest also led to the end of some mid-range sedans. It is well known that non-domestic providers in Germany find it difficult to convince customers in this already rather prestigious league of the advantages of their models.

And as if the production of the Land Rover Defender wasn’t anachronistic enough, the British will have the production from the factory once again for the grand finale in the middle of the Solihull plant Reconstructed the founding days – and ask you to travel back in time to the early 1950s.

Suzuki therefore ended the attempt to show with the Kizashi that you can do more than small cars and all-wheel drive vehicles. Hyundai is now only concentrating on the station wagon version of the i40, the sedan is no longer available.

Honda goes one step further and no longer offers the Accord at all. Renault does the same with the Laguna. At least there is a successor with the talisman.

Despite its successor, the SX4 S-Cross, the Suzuki SX4 initially remained available as an inexpensive entry-level model "SX Classic". In the meantime, however, production has ceased.

Some cars fail due to safety regulations

The compact SUV Opel Antara, which rolled off the assembly line in Korea as a Chevrolet Captiva twin until this summer, is still without a direct successor. Fans will have to be patient until next year, when a CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle), which is being built in cooperation with PSA (Peugeot / Citroën), will benefit from the ongoing SUV boom.

Of course, other brands, Seat and Skoda for example, but also Mazda, rely on this successful division. The Golf Plus derivative Seat Altea, the Skoda Roomster high-roof station wagon and the Mazda5 van are no longer available and have no direct successors.

These cars are most sought after by thieves

Last year alone, 150 Range Rovers were stolen in Germany – making it the most stolen car. While luxury brand owners have to worry, there are also models that are less sought after.

Instead, the Volkswagen Group brands each have an SUV based on the new Tiguan, with a naturally more stylish design than the very everyday, if not necessarily trendy, vehicles that have been offered so far. Mazda customers with space requirements have to resort to the CX-5 if they cannot make friends with the Mazda6.

Finally, let’s talk about real off-road vehicles: those with which you can drive through the deserts of the world, for which no slope is too slippery or ascent too steep. But they fail because of modern emissions and safety regulations.

Toyota is taking the Land Cruiser V8 out of its European delivery program. The thick ship with a 4.5-liter eight-cylinder no longer meets the Euro 6 emissions standard – or the effort would be too great. The Land Rover Defender has a similar problem.

There are also insurmountable hurdles in pedestrian protection. The veteran has to admit defeat too. After 67 years it is over now. At least the Defender has reached a truly biblical age for a car.
