This is followed by two part-time electric vehicles from another German automobile manufacturer, the Mercedes GLC and the Mercedes A-Class.

With further, upcoming models one can assume that further changes will take place here in the future. It will probably not be like 2020, a year in which the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV had claimed first place for a long time. It is more likely that there will be more movement in the market in the future. The top-10 in the area of plug-in hybrids is decided by the SEAT / CUPRA Leon, Renault Captur, Volvo XC60 and BMW X1. The Captur and Leon have swapped places with each other.

There is much less movement in the rankings for pure electric cars. The Tesla Model 3 is once again in first place in the ranking. Followed by the German VW ID.3, although the gap between the two places is still noticeably large. Almost by a factor of two; if you look at the absolute numbers. The gap to the third-placed Renault ZOE is significantly smaller. But don’t worry, a Volkswagen is on the trail of this one too, the ID.4.

The VW ID.4 shines with strong sales growth and maintains its strong fourth place. With the debut of the VW ID.4 in Europe, sales of SUV and crossover electric vehicles increased enormously. Supported by the SKODA Enyaq iV, which also comes from the VW Group. The popularity is also reflected in sixth place in the ranking, the Kona Elektro from Hyundai, which was overtaken by the e-Niro from KIA at the end of September. This is followed by other popular electric vehicles such as the Fiat 500, the Peugeot e-208 and the VW e-Up!, who still like “sliced bread” would sell if it was still for sale. Newly included in the ranking of the Skoda Enyaq, which is in ninth place.

  1. Crazy growth numbers! gives hope. And the Europeans are at the forefront or even at the top. Tesla is doing surprisingly well, but has no chance against the really big ones.
    In 2019, Tesla sold more than twice as many BEVs in Europe as the VW Group.
    By the end of 2021, the VW Group will have sold more than twice as many BEVs as Tesla.
    Tesla approx. 140,000, VW group approx. 300,000.

  2. The development towards the BEV is positive. Now the trend has to go away from the BEV SUV and towards the BEV small and medium-sized car. The funding models must provide incentives here. Only funding for BEV’s below 30.000 euros gross and a minimum range of 300 km (WLTP). If this is not done, we will see on the e-Up. Simply not available ?! I wonder why ? You can make more money with SUVs.

  3. Tesla versus VW/German manufacturers. Just drive from Hamburg to Munich and set the cruise control to 130 km/h on the autobahn. Who arrives more relaxed and earlier in Munich ?
