Nothing for introverts: details such as the diamond-look radiator grille and a guilloche chrome clip on the bonnet make the DS 9 stand out from the crowd.

DS 9: France has a new goddess

Renaissance for the French luxury sedan: The DS9 brings a noble ambience and the latest technology.

With the DS 9, the luxury brand of the PSA Group presents its new flagship: 4.93 meters long and 1.85 meters wide, so the sedan plays in a league with Mercedes E-Class & Co. To meet local and global emission standards, comes the DS in three plug-in and only one pure combustion variant. The models are based on the Group-wide EMP2 platform (Efficient Modular Platform 2), on which almost all larger Citroën and Peugeot models are based, as well as some Opel models such as the Zafira or Grandland X.

Unlike these, the DS 9 wants to be in the luxury segment. This is particularly evident in the interior, called “DS Lounge”: elements with guilloche, an engraving known from watch manufacture, nappa leather on the dashboard, crystal glass decorative elements and Alcantara roof lining are intended to create a luxury class atmosphere. Bead embroidery on the seats and a chronograph complete the flair.

The DS 9 should attract attention

From the outside, too, the DS 9 wants to stand out from others in a brand-typical way: The radiator grille called “DS Wings” has a three-dimensional diamond look, the bonnet is adorned with a metal clip that is also engraved. A car that is really not suitable for introverted drivers. “We designed the DS 9 to surprise, to attract attention,” affirms CEO Beatrice Foucher. “Appearance is a key factor for a sedan.” With its hatchback and distinctive, sharply drawn side lines, the DS 9 is definitely a sight to behold.

On the technical side, the DS 9 offers everything you would expect from a sedan in this class: in addition to the usual assistance systems such as the active lane departure warning system for semi-autonomous driving, a fully automatic parking assistant and a night vision infrared camera, there is an active suspension. It uses a camera to analyze the condition of the road and adjusts the dampers accordingly. The “DS Driver Attention Monitoring” system keeps an eye on the driver via a camera and analyzes the blinking of the eyes, the direction in which the driver is looking, head movements and steering movements in order to warn him if he is tired. Blind Spot Assist and Emergency Brake Assist are of course also on board.

The sedan comes in three plug-in variants

At the market launch, for which no date has yet been set, the DS 9 will come as a plug-in hybrid with a system output of 225 hp. The electric motor delivers a decent 110 hp and draws its power from a 11.9 kWh battery. According to DS, this not only enables a purely electric range of up to 50 kilometers in the WLTP cycle, but also a top speed of 135 km/h without using the petrol engine.

A little later there will be two more plug-in hybrids: A more powerful version with 250 hp system power and a longer range and an all-wheel drive with a total of 360 hp. As an alternative with a pure combustion engine, a petrol engine with 225 hp is planned. The prices for the French luxury sedan have not yet been determined.
