Cupra wants to conquer the race track

In the future, the brand will start with two new models in the TCR and ETCR series

Cupra presents the e-Racer and the Leon Competicion. While the former was specially developed for the ECTR series (Electro Touring Car Racing), the Competicion is intended to set new standards not only in the TCR series (Touring Car Racing), but also in endurance racing.

The e-Racer relies on little air resistance and high contact pressure

The e-Racer electric racing car is the brand’s first all-electric touring racing car. It is scheduled to start in 2021 in the new ETCR racing series specially developed for electric vehicles and is equipped with four electric motors that together deliver 680hp with a torque of 960Nm. A 65 kWh battery, which is liquid-cooled, supplies the power for this.

The aerodynamics are designed entirely for increased contact pressure and reduced air resistance, which is most noticeable in the radiator grille, which, in contrast to the combustion engine variant, is completely closed.

New lightweight technology in the Leon Competicion

With the Leon Competicion, on the other hand, a turbocharged petrol engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters and 340hp at 410Nm provides propulsion in a very traditional way. In addition to the contact pressure, work was primarily done on lightweight construction, which ranges from the chassis geometry to the electronic architecture, which was developed in-house and which, in addition to the lower weight, should above all be less prone to errors.

The Leon Competicion has been available for pre-order for customer sport since the end of 2019, and the first models will be delivered from April. There is still no information on the e-Racer in this regard.
