For the up to 560 kW strong luxury limousine, a WLTP consumption of 23.4 – 21.1 kWh / 100 km is given. It is built in Affalterbach and should address a new Mercedes-AMG clientel. The heart of the EQS 53 4Matic + is a performance-oriented drive concept with one electric motor on the front and rear axle. Thus, a fully variable four-wheel drive is possible, which distributes the force according to the selected driving program. The AMG motors are permanent-prescribed synchronous machines (PSM) with optimum balance of performance increase, efficiency and noise comfort. New windings, greater currents and control by means of specially developed software enable higher engine speeds and higher performance especially when accelerating. A novel thermal concept allows repeated acceleration maneuvers with consistently high performance. At the heart of this concept is a water lance in the shaft of the rotor that cools it.
The basic version reaches a maximum overall performance of 484 kW (658 hp), the maximum torque is 950 nm. Who is too little, the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, with which in the race start mode with boost function a maximum power of 560 kW (761 hp) and a torque of 1.020 nm is reached. Then the EQS 53 4Matic + accelerates at a battery charge level of at least 75 percent in 3.4 seconds from 0-100 km / h. In the basic equipment it requires 3.8 seconds for this. The maximum speed is limited with 250 km / h (220 km / h in the basic equipment). Nevertheless, Michelin has developed an AMG-specific tires, which is specially designed for the high torques and strong acceleration forces.
The power for such maximum speeds is provided by a 400 volt lithium-ion battery with 107.8 kWh usable energy content, which is situated in the crash-proof underbody. The cobalt share was reduced to ten percent, a big step in terms of sustainability. The battery management system is AMG-specific tuned and can be updated over-the-air. An intelligent thermal management ensures shorter loading times, the battery can be preheated or cooled as needed while driving to reach the optimum temperature for fast loading at the charging point. Up to 200 kW of fast charging stations are possible. The battery becomes a ten-year warranty up to a mileage of 250.000 km granted. After use in the vehicle, the battery can be used as a storage medium. Mercedes-Benz Energy GmbH already operates three major memory with a total of around 50 MWh energy from used automotive batteries, which contribute to network stabilization.
The EQS 53 4Matic + has a continuously variable air suspension for highest ride comfort. The chassis consists of a four-link axis on the front and a sparing car axis at the rear, which were adapted to the special requirement of the AMG. The standard rear axle steering, a newly developed rear axle carrier as well as revised transverse stabilizers and wheel carriers provide maneuverability and driving stability. Five different driving programs cover a wide range, from high comfort to pronounced sportiness.
Dimensions set the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic + but not only when accelerating, but also by efficient energy recovery during braking. The recuperation performance reaches up to 300 kW and is controllable over three steps on the steering wheel. With the help of the optional Drive pilot, the vehicle automatically brakes in preceding vehicles up to their standstill, for example at a traffic light. Also on the AMG-typical sound in the acceleration, buyers of the EQS 53 4Matic + do not have to do without. The integrated sound system creates a powerful sonorous with special speakers, bass actuators, and a SoundGenerator sound in two different characteristics, inside and outside.
