With this bike, KTM fans have to brush their teeth
Quite a lot of everything: The KTM 1290 Super Adventure has features that are rather unusual for die-hard bikers, such as cruise control and heated seats
Atypical for the brand with the “ready to race” battle cry: the new KTM models are luxuriously equipped. Purists will still get their money’s worth.
W.really true? Is that actually supposed to be a KTM? There will certainly be some in the Austrian workforce from KTM who hide their shame.
In connection with the new top model KTM 1290 Super Adventure, words and terms were used for the first time that were unthinkable, that are ineffable for the robust motocross maniacs from KTM with their battle cry "Ready to race" – which is still the company slogan.
But now, with this new, luxurious and at least 18,200 euros long-distance travel motorcycle Super Adventure 1290, the term “seat heating” in the KTM world, the unword “Tempomat” or (here the die-hard KTM fan puts his hand over the Eyes) "automatic, incline-dependent activation of cornering lights".
Laptop with taillight
When KTM technicians shamelessly point out that the main driving light switches on automatically in addition to the daytime running lights made of 13 decorative LEDs when it gets dark in the tunnel, in dust clouds or at dusk, then the old KTM riders obediently obey the lips. But then they brush their teeth.
With the electric starter came convenience

When the first Electra Glide hit the market in 1965, there were a lot of skeptics. Nevertheless, this motorcycle became a successful model.
One can maliciously say about the new KTM 1290 Super Adventure with its monstrously powerful 160 hp machine: It will go down in motorcycle history as the first laptop with a taillight and two cylinders.
The high-tech device is packed with countless sensors for the lean angle, for the speeds of the front and rear wheels, for the temperatures in the air and in the engine, the lighting conditions, several for the condition of the road surface, for the fuel supply, for the Maximum engine power that the tire can just bring onto the road, the air pressure in both tires, for the ABS.
Damper for the KTM
Nothing has been left out on this KTM that is technically useful, tested and feasible. The new ABS from Bosch, which also works in bends, is no longer a unique selling point on the global motorcycle market.

For this motorcycle, KTM has squeezed out the entire tube financially, increased its development departments by 100 percent, and turned the company inside out with a new organizational structure. And what is it all for? To wage an alpine war, along the moraines to the west, where the Bavarians live.
There the mighty Super Adventure will wedge its antlers with the top dog from BMW, the R 1200 GS. She should push them out of the clearing. The GS, like the Super Adventure, a large travel enduro, has been by far the best-selling motorcycle in Germany for more than a decade – although it is one of the most expensive machines of all. Like the second competitor, the Multistrada 1200 from Ducati. Their technical data sheet (new, soon to be released model) resembles that of the Super Adventure in detail, in terms of technical equipment from cornering lights to cornering ABS to engine performance.
After six hours of heating with the KTM on winding mountainous country roads, everything boils down to the impression that the doubled KTM engineers achieved a brilliant climax in engine construction. The V2 with 1301 cc, 160 PS and 140 Newton meters of torque goes through as the best that is currently available.
Pure biker pleasure on the Ducati Scrambler
1 of 8
The Scrambler does not focus on the technology, but on the pure experience of driving a simple motorcycle.

The Scrambler is available from 8390 euros.

Thanks to the wide handlebars, the Scrambler can be turned easily.

Ducati’s Scrambler drives authentically, but not old-fashioned.
It doesn’t matter that after a few kilometers every driver should realize what the monstrous electronic (or hydraulically controlled) effort is absolutely necessary for: for survival. If you are not a professional, the unregulated power would carry you into the bushes after a few careless meters.
The decisive factor in the KTM engine is therefore not the power and horsepower. The great thing about it is the courtesy with which this motorcycle gives the rider 160 hp. Playful, jerk-free and always appropriate, never all at once.
During the first presentation trip with motorcycle journalists, there was a colleague who practically completed the 180-kilometer tour in second gear. Consumption eight liters, at speeds always just before or mostly in the limiter.
Anecdotes from the rev range
Another reported two liters less, but tormented the machine in fifth gear up the serpentine routes. But that’s also possible, at speeds down to 1500 revolutions. So deep down in the speed cellar, there is no longer any talk of smooth work pleasure.
These are the new motorcycle products from BMW

The last two models with the new, air-water-cooled boxer engine were unveiled at Intermot 2014 in Cologne.

BMW presented the R 1200 R and R 1200 RS.
3 of 7
The 1200 Roadster R is available from 12,800 euros, while the dynamic tourer RS starts at 13,400 euros.

For Intermot, BMW has significantly upgraded its S 1000 RR for the 2015 model year after five years of production. The first test drive has now taken place in Spain.
5 of 7
A plus of six horsepower now results in 199 hp, the maximum torque increases by 1 to 113 Nm.
6 of 7
A new frame structure and chassis geometry should increase the precision of the superbike.

The three riding modes "Rain", "Sport" and "Race" can be selected in series on the new RR.
But the new engine still runs reasonably well. So much behavior and culture, so much care with insensitive turning of the throttle or with people without experience and a feel for difficult technology – you can’t say it otherwise than that KTM has created the best engineering work of art in the competitive environment with this engine.
The same LC8 engine type, albeit in the previous version, is part of the KTM bestseller 1190 Adventure. There he turns up happier. But the machine is rattling, sportier. It could also be called bitchier.
Is it a mistake on the part of KTM to equip a second model with the same engine, but to charge 5200 euros less for it??
The Honda Gold Wing is getting more and more luxurious
1 of 7
40 years ago Honda presented the Gold Wing GL 1000 at the IFMA in Cologne. It had a water-cooled boxer engine with a displacement of 1000 cubic centimeters and an output of 82 hp. From 1975 …it was available on the German market for 9,268 marks.
2 of 7
Over the years the motorcycle has developed into a luxury tourer. From the end of the 1980s, the Gold Wing was equipped with reverse gear. Since the 2001 model there has been …the 1.8 liter boxer engine.
3 of 7
Honda set new standards in 2006; At that time, the Gold Wing came onto the market with the first and so far only airbag in a production motorcycle.

The current Honda Gold Wing GL 1800 is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special two-tone paintwork in red / black.
5 of 7
"40 Anniversary" emblems on the fairing, among other things, reveal the anniversary model.
6 of 7
The anniversary emblem is also emblazoned on the backrest of the pillion passenger.

If you like it a little more puristic, you can use the Gold Wing F6B. The excavator offshoot with a very flat windshield and, thanks to the omission of the top case, the sloping side towards the rear…en line, will be launched in 2015 in matt black. You don’t have to do without reverse gear and cruise control even with the stripped version.
The new 1050 Adventure, which is now being released at the same time, manages with 251 cc less displacement. But otherwise it’s not just the same fabulous engine. The new frame is also the same, and not just him. In a run comparison it turns out: It is paperwork, number theory, that the machine with 95 HP should be much weaker.
Maneuverability that few can follow
In fact, the excess power of the 1050, at least when driving hard on country roads, catches the eye – the cockpit light for the traction control likes to blink, as regularly as on the big one with 160 hp. The HP and torque diagrams of the current bestseller 1190 Adventure (with 150 HP) and the new 1050, which the KTM people put on top of each other, are almost damaging to business: the two are identical up to 95 HP.
The small KTM pulls away from the big ones on country roads anyway. Not just because of the weight. With a full tank, the 1050 weighs 228 kilos, the Super Adventure 17 kilos more. Above all, the narrow 150 mm rear tire of the little Adventure brings enormous maneuverability into the motorcyclist’s life that only a few can follow.
The KTM 1050 Adventure, which will be released at the same time, manages with 251 ccm less displacement. But otherwise it’s not just the same fabulous engine as in the 1290
Both KTMs, the wiry, slim 1050 as well as the 1290 Super Adventure, which with its deliberately thick cheeks had to fluff up to the volume of the R 1200 GS from BMW – both have chassis that belong to the best.
Even tall drivers will find relaxing space and ergonomics on both machines. Standard on the 1050 Adventure (12,695 euros) are an adjustable windshield, case holders and luggage rack. Footrests and handlebars are adjustable, and KTM also supplies the latest ABS from Bosch and a very well-functioning traction control. So everything that is necessary and nothing more.
